It's not rocket science
Keeping your small pet healthy and happy is not hard, it's just common sense.
1. Feed the right food
It might be a member of your family but it really doesn't like human food. Whilst it may eat it happily, human food is quite likely to make them sick.
2. Provide clean and spacious housing
Yes, they might be small but they are healthier when they live in large, luxurious abodes.
3. Line up a good vet
Make sure you have a vet who knows about your small animal.
4. Know the signs of illness
Rabbits and guinea pigs are very good at hiding when they are sick. So be alert and look out for signs that are different from usual or a refusal to eat or drink. Signs to look for include:
- laboured breathing
- wheezing
- crusty eyes
- sneezing
- rough or puffed up coat
- dull and/or receding eyes
|
- lethargy, hunched posture
- diarrhoea
- blood in urine
- limping
- hair loss, excessive scratching
- loss of balance.

5. Be alert
If there is any change in behaviour then watch them. It could be time for a visit to the vet.
