When your kitten comes home

When your new kitten first comes home, setting up a special room for it away from other cats, and for when you are not home, is very important (see Welcome home). Providing a comfortable sleeping area in this room is important.

As your kitten gets adventurous

As your kitten starts to venture into the house, it is a good idea to provide a sleeping area in the living room that is the kitten’s own special space. This should be somewhere it likes to be and where it feels safe and secure, away from other cats if the cats are not being friendly, and where children know it should be left to rest.

Bedding should be warm, comfortable and easy to clean. Some kittens prefer enclosed cat beds and others prefer blankets on a sofa or chair.
