Dog Grooming

A well-groomed dog is a healthy dog. That’s why it is important to get your puppy accustomed to grooming early in life.

Where do I begin?

If your dog is not used to grooming begin with short grooming sessions, touching its ears and paws gently.
Never punish your dog for not responding positively to the grooming schedule. In time, learn where your dog likes to be combed and brushed – some areas may be more sensitive than others. Find that special spot your pooch likes the most and grooming will soon become a special treat for your dog!

When it comes to grooming tools, do not permit your dog to mistake them for toys. Playing with brushes or clippers will cause your dog to treat grooming sessions as play time. Here are some tips to help get your dog into good shape with Masterpet’s grooming tools.

Nail care

Dog nails have a ‘quick’, which is visible as a pink darkening in light-coloured nails but is invisible on black dog nails. The quick has a nerve and blood supply. If you clip into the quick, the nail will bleed and be painful for your dog.

Clipping dark-coloured nails in several small cuts will help to reduce the chance of cutting into the quick. Never use human nail clippers or regular scissors as they will shatter the nail and possibly inflict the dog pain, not to mention leave ragged nails that will catch on fabrics and surfaces.

Masterpet has several different canine nail clippers to choose from depending on your preference and your dog’s size.

Clipping

The summer sun feels wonderful on our bare skin, but those with fur do not share our sentiment. The tropical heat is not a blessing for long-haired dogs. Regular grooming and clipping can make the difference between a comfortable summer and an anguishing bake for dogs. Clipping is an easy and effective way to help keep them cool.

Here’s a tip: clipping your dog’s hair between the paws will prevent anything (such as seeds from some grasses or pebbles) from sticking between the pads. It also helps to prevent slipping on smooth surfaces.
Masterpet has two scissors styles, depending on your dog’s grooming needs.

Using the Standard Scissor with ball-head reduces the risk to hurt the dogs, while the Thinning Scissor is the perfect tool for thinning the thick coats or for specialised styling.
