Back in 1981, a young Michael O'Sullivan was proving to be an outstanding worker for an equally young Masterpet Corporation. When he left to pursue another career, the question was asked "where can we get another of him from?". The answer was his twin brother Martin.
"I have been a major beneficiary of Masterpet's ability and willingness to nurture young talent. This company looks for young people with ability and says: "here's an opportunity". It's then entirely up to them how they capitalize on that opportunity.
One of the greatest pleasures I have from my job is the knowledge that, of many young cadets I have hired or helped hire, more than 85 percent are still with the company. Some have been working here for more than 10 years already.
I also get a sense of achievement from the growth of Masterpet in Auckland, easily New Zealand's largest competitive market. The new sales centre has set the standard for the industry and has created a tremendous platform for growth.
