Nothing makes you stop and appreciate the little things in life, like a kitten. It’s not just that they’re cute as a button. It’s their wondrous view of the everyday shoelace, blowing dandelion, or tapping finger – or in some cases, the piano keyboard. Best of all, the more time you spend with your pint-size puss and learn how to care for him, the more he’ll bond and become a very special member of your family. Me-WOW!
Considering a kitten? Great mews!
If you’re thinking about adding a kitten to your family, here are some things you’ll want to consider – keeping in mind you’re in it for the long haul (or tail, whichever fits):
- Will the cat live mostly indoors or outdoors?
- Do you have young children? If so, an active and fun breed like a Siamese may be more appropriate then a sleepy, inactive one. (Although they all seem that way sometimes, don’t they?)
- How much time do you have to care for and bond with your little furball? Some breeds are higher maintenance than others. Cough, Burmese, cough.
- Do you currently have any other pets that may not mix with owning a cat? Think dogs, birds, fish, and other small animals.
It’s also a great idea to chat with other cat owners, even breeders. They can help you choose the best cat breed for your two-legged litter at home.

So, you’ve decided a pint-size cat is where it’s at. Congrats! Now it’s time to think about what your new arrival will need to be comfy in his new home. Of course, a lot of things go into owning a cat – bedding, play toys, cat litter, kitten treats, collars, grooming, and even cat doors.
The list of course goes on, which is why we’ve provided a litter of kitten care topics to help you, along the way. By the time you’re finished with these kitten tips, you’ll both be smitten.
